Depth Of Field

After my softball practice at some of the local fields in my area the sun started to set creating a beautiful background. I didn’t just want to take a picture of the sky like most other people so I decided to add what I was doing at that point in time, a softball. So I just lined up the ball with the plate and the sunset in the back to make it look pretty. In order to take this picture as well as I did I had to use the things I learned in class. I used a close depth of field to make the background blurry to make the ball pop. I had also used close and far because it has something in the foreground(the ball) and in the background(the sunset) that are equally as interesting to look at. I choose to incorporate softball into this project because it was something that was very easy for me to do but it also shows that softball is a big part of my life because if you look at the ball compared to the background, it is much bigger. It shows that in my world that softball is very important to me and that it is a big part of my life. While I do think that this is a good picture I do feel that I could have done some things better like having a better plate to help make the ball stick out more. Or maybe have a ball with better seems to help it stand out more. I also felt that the ball could have possible been in a little better focus. So next time I can try to make the ball a little clearer. And while I do feel that I could have done things better I felt that I had really good lighting for this photo.

Panorama

I thought that this photo shoot was fun. I decided to take a picture of my room because it is where I spend a majority of my time. It is also my favorite room in my house. I found that this assignment was fun because you took all of the images you had taken and put them together as if it were a puzzle. These assignments have given me something to do while in quarantine. I felt that I could have done better on this assignment if I was able to go places and be a little more creative. But I feel that I did a good job putting all the images together. All in all I think that my photo shoot could have been better if people were allowed to go outside.

GIF

I choose to take pictures of a drawing of a man getting a Valentines day mug for his wife. I choose to draw all of the individual pictures that make up the GIF. This GIF took time in photoshop in order to make it so it would endlessly loop. I thought that this assignment was fun because we were able to make any story we wanted to make. I thought that I did well on this assignment. The only thing that I would want to do differently is take actual pictures to see how it would turn out then. But all in all I found this assignment to be really fun and creative.

Noun

The noun I chose to take picture of was economy. I took a picture of a pineapple field where they grow. I took this picture while I was in Hawaii. In this picture you can see depth of field. This is shown with the field as well as the sky behind that. You can also see a balance of things in the picture as well. I chose this subject matter because I had thought about economy related things during my parody photo shoot as well because the photographer I had took pictures during the Great Depression and I felt this was a good transition for the photoshoots. This was like my own version of the parody photo shoot I had done. So this was entirely my voice. During this assignment I felt I could have done better with variety of subject matter. But I also felt that I had done well with taking pictures at different angles. I think for my next photo shoot I need to choose more subject matter for my topic. I also think I could start the photo shoot sooner.

Parody

During this photo shoot we took pictures like we were a famous photographer. I was taking pictures like I was Dorothea Lange. I took this picture because Lange took pictures of things during the Great Depression. I felt that this barn looked old and beaten down as if it were the Great Depression. All I did was go to my aunt and uncles house where this barn was. I used don’t center and depth of field to make this picture better. I put the barn just to the right of the center and I used depth of field by should in tree line and field behind the barn. I also used emphasis to bring out the barn in this picture. I didn’t really get to voice my voice as a photographer in this shoot though because I was making parodies of another photographer. The only way I found a way to use my voice was by using current beaten down objects and not as many farms and people with little money. I choose to do this topic though because I thought it would help me see the world differently, for that not everything in the world is perfect. I did find this photo shoot difficult in the sense that I had to get in the mind of another person. But all in all I thought I did ok during this photo shoot. I thought I had at least a few good photos. I don’t think that I would want to change anything in this photo shoot. But I do wish that I would have thought a little more about what I was going to take pictures of ahead of time.

Juxtaposition

I took a picture of two similar but different icicle ornaments on a Christmas tree in my house. I didn’t really need to set up my scene since they were already next to each other on the tree. I used close and far to show a little variety in the picture with the icicles. I also used not centering to help make the picture a little more artsy. I also balanced the picture by using two icicles. I chose to take this picture because to a normal person these aren’t two different icicles but these icicles represents Ashley, my twin sister, and me. Ashley and I are two completely different people and that is how it is showing juxtaposition. It makes me see things not only for what they are but also for what they represent. This picture also represents who I am and what my life is because I have a twin. I think that I did well forcing juxtapositions but I don’t think I did as well with the mashups because I got a little confused at a specific point. I also think I did ok with finding natural juxtapositions even though I didn’t think I would do well in the beginning. I don’t think I would change anything about this assignment. All around I thought this was a good assignment.

ISO and Lighting

I took a picture of this reflective marker in the ground at my grandma’s house because I thought that it would reflect the sun really well and make it shiny. I was planning on taking pictures in their backyard when was walking back their I saw the marker out of the corner of my eye and thought it would be a great picture. I noticed the best way to take the picture would be with the sun behind the object to get the light to reflect and also to use contrasting colors with the tree line behind the red marker. I also didn’t center the marker and got close to see all of the different squares on the marker. This picture allowed me to see how color can emphasize what you are taking a picture of, especially when using contrasting colors. I incorporated my voice as an artist in this picture by having it outside. Most of my favorite picture are taken outside, that it what I enjoy taking pictures of so that is my voice. I think my strengths from this assignment include a variety of subjects and also having well focused day and indoor pictures. I think I could improve with my night pictures because I don’t think they turned out very well. I think that if I could change one thing it would be how long I waited to take the night pictures. I think this because I felt I might have had better pictures if I didn’t wait for the sun to fully set so I would still have some sun light.

Shutter Speed

When I was in Hawaii my family took a trip on the road to Hana. Along the way we stopped at this beach that had a bunch of lava rocks around it where the waves would crash against them. So I decided to go out onto the rock and take a picture of when the waves crashed. All I had to do was wait for the perfect wave to take a picture of. I feel that I used close and far in the picture because of the mountain in the background as well as point of interest. These things made it very obvious what I was trying to take a picture of and it also provided depth to the picture. I also think I used balance and contrast well. I think I did best with the contrast because of the black rock and white from the water. The balance in the photo was created by the busyness on the bottom and not much going on in the top of the picture. I am really happy I took this picture because I feel that it portrays all of the beauty I saw in Hawaii. It helped me see all of the things that create the beauty of nature. I choose to take this because it is something you would see a professional photographer take and so I wanted to do something like they would do. I feel that I used my shutter speed very well in this picture because I was able to have the wave freeze in the air. But if I could redo anything I would take it during the sunset to make the sky have more depth and color to make it even prettier.
